Let's Crochet for Charity

This weekend I thought I would do something good by crocheting, hopefully giving a little help to less fortunates putting together yarns, hook and my hands....

I looked on the internet for charities that need help from crocheters and knitters and I run into Kofia, a charity which, as the website says, is "asking people to make baby hats for a remote community in Berega, Tanzania. A simple act which will save the lives of malnourished and premature babies - just by keeping them warm."

I thought it was a lovely idea....and I thought that by spreading the word among my crocheter friends we could really make a positive difference and help these babies.

Here is the baby warm hat I made today.

I started from the pattern of Adventures in Crochet, added a couple more rounds of dc and decided to add a pom pom with a some green to make it more colorful.

I hope you like the idea and join with some crochet hats to help babies in Tanzania.

Wishing you a lovely weekend

Time for Thanksgiving Decorations!

This will be my first celebration of Thanksgiving and I am pretty excited about it!

My husband is American and this year we finally got to live together....So I am trying to do my best to make him feel home in London, creating a nice atmosphere with decorations and hopefully making a lovely meal next Thursday! His family is thinking about flying over and it would make it a lovely day with family and friends!!

In order to get ready for the event, I have started googling around for Thanksgiving decorations, got myself some autumn leaves as well as pine cones!

Then...what about crocheting something as well? Thanks to Pinterest I found this amazing pattern of a crochet Thanksgiving turkey from Zara which you can find on her blog HERE

I found it way too cute!! I had to try and make one too for our dinner table next Thursday...and here are the results!!

The pattern is free and available on her blog...and I found it very well written and easy to follow....if you're looking for ideas for Thanksgiving, I think you should have a look at it!..her idea of making the wings with granny squares is really lovely!

Wishing you all a nice and creative evening

Love

Duck flannel or duck placemat?

This year for my birthday my friends made me a wonderful present...I guess it shows how much they know me!!! They got me some gorgeous yarns, some crochet ideas and a one year subscription to the Inside Crochet Monthly Magazine!!!! They couldn't have chosen better!!

Of course this will be a big incentive for me to find some cute ideas for presents for each one to thank them :)

But when I got the October magazine I saw something pretty cute and I couldn't resist!! My friends' presents will have to be slightly postponed.....

The Magazine is really great, as apart from giving you lots of crochet ideas, it does actually include several pattern instructions!!! Among them I found a pattern for a duck flannel designed by Helen Free.

The duck grew quite fast, as the pattern suggests the use of a thick cotton yarn and I worked it with a 5.5mm hook.

However, once realized it, the more I was looking at it, the more I was thinking it could be a nice idea for a kitchen placemat for kids....as I think it could catch their attention and hopefully make them enjoy their meal time even more!!!!!

My husband is suggesting me to keep the duck for the bathroom and make a long blue stripe with a waving shape as bathmat.... I think it could work..

...though to be honest I still haven't kept any of my crochet work for myself and I am a bit more tempted to make a cute eye to the duck, add a bit more color and give it to my niece.... hhhmmmm..decisions, decisions.....hmmmm...

What would you suggest?

Wish you all a happy day
